“Underground Fitness Revolution, made a huge impact in the way I think about training, eating, and my overall physical well being. I started working out seriously when I was about 24 years old, I got a gym membership, and began going with a friend three days a week. We would generally spend anywhere from one and a half to two hours in the gym, honestly kind of depending on how much we were talking and goofing around while we were “working out.”
This lasted for a couple of years, I was then given an opportunity to try personal training at this gym. I decided to give it a shot, even though the price was outrageous (close to $2,400 per month for twelve 55-minute sessions with a personal trainer). I noticed strength, mobility, balance, and conditioning increases, but never really got what I was looking for out of the training. I did this for almost an entire year before I gave up on it. I was frustrated. I then got out of going to the gym for probably close to six months.
What little progress I had made went away faster than I had expected, especially considering the investment I had made into this “training.” I finally got off my butt, and started getting back into the gym, and was able to get back to where I was on my own as I had been with the personal trainer. Generally, I focused solely on strength training, and weight lifting. I ended up injuring one of my legs doing some improper squats and lunges. I then quit doing legs altogether, and figured that I would probably just have to live with that pain the rest of my life.
A few months later I had a couple friends that had started at Underground Fitness Revolution, and kept talking to me about what they were doing, and how there was no way that I would be able to do the workouts that they were doing. I assured them that I was fine with the way things were going, and I didn’t need to see a trainer, after all I knew what I was doing because I had already had a trainer.
A few months later they convinced me to do the trial at UFR. How wrong I was about knowing what I was doing. I had lost all of the conditioning that I had built up, I have never had a workout make me feel like UFR did, I was dizzy and winded like I had never been before after a workout. I decided that UFR was for me, and signed up to continue going.
Within one month of being there, the leg pain that I thought I was going to have to live with was almost completely gone. A shoulder injury that I thought would haunt me as well, I was able to overcome with some guidance from UFR.
Now the one thing that I never got from my “trainer” at the gym was nutritional advice, and I always knew this was a weak area for me. I tried to keep protein intake high, but I knew that ultimately, my diet was my weak point. I tried researching this on my own, but seriously the amount of diet information available is staggering to say the least. UFR was able to give me the guiding hand on what I needed to be eating and I have been able to make some fantastic improvements there. Muscle weighs more than fat so I have never really paid that much attention to scale numbers as I figured my weight probably won’t change that much as I replace fat with muscle.
I will say this though when I started at UFR I was a size 38 waist pant, I very quickly went down to a size 36, and am down to the point where those don’t even fit me anymore. All of this in less than six months with UFR! I am amazed is the absolute least I can say, and all of this for WAY less than I was paying the gym for personal training. “I just wanted to send you a note of thanks. Over the last 6 months I have seen such results ( 7 1/2 inches from my waist, 3 1/2 inches total from my hips and down 11 lbs.). When I started at UFR I had been in shape. I taught group fitness for years and decided to workout on my own to be able to spend more time with my daughter. I had completed p90x and insanity and thought okay let’s try this for my last 10 lbs to loss.
What I finally learned after 20 years of working out and diets that it really does matter how you eat. I used to think I workout so I can eat what I like. I never ate horribly, just not always enough or always the right things. Pretty much I lived on rice and black beans.
